Why you keep hearing “experience required”

Nobody lets you fly a real study untrained.
Here’s the route in.

A live clinical trial runs on patient safety, data integrity and regulatory trust. No sponsor will let an untrained person near one — for the same reason no airline puts a pilot in the cockpit without simulator hours. That’s not gatekeeping; it’s correct. So the way in isn’t more applications — it’s the pilot’s route:

Step 01 · Ground school

Understand the operation

The 2-hour live session on this page: the real hiring map, how trials actually run, a protocol exercise in your hands, and your 30-day plan. This is where you find out if operations is for you.

By invitation · after the session
Step 02 · Simulator hours

Do the real work, safely

The Practitioner Pathway: an 8-week simulator — the actual work of a clinical operations team, on a real platform with simulated data. Offered to selected session participants only.

Where you land
Step 03 · Real studies

Get trusted to fly

You arrive with operational proof: exercises completed, systems used, a reference for work you demonstrated. That’s what lets an employer put you near a live study.

TrainSimulateFly

It’s the industry’s own logic. We’ve just built the missing simulator.

Option A · run the plan yourself

Everything you need leaves with you

The session hands you the full plan — hiring map, CV method, GCP route. Run it solo and it works. It’s just slower, and you’re queuing with everyone else trying to get noticed the long way.

Option B · by invitation

Jump the queue

Selected participants are invited into the Pathway: 8 weeks of simulator hours and operational proof most candidates spend years trying to stumble into. Same destination — a fraction of the wait.

“I feel like the academic experience I bring to the table adds no value, despite being a researcher for 7 years.”

2 hours. No filler.

Every minute is designed around one question: what would actually help you get hired?

The hiring reality (no sugar-coating)Dr. Nicola Wall

CRA I is not entry level. Dr. Nicola Wall’s no-sugar-coating view of why academic CVs get screened out before a human reads them — and which roles are genuinely open.

Live CV translationIna Burgstaller

One volunteer, one CV, reframed in real time. You’ll see how “I collected data” becomes “I performed source data verification and query resolution” — so you can rewrite yours the same evening.

Protocol exerciseIna Burgstaller

Work through eligibility screening from a Phase III trial. This is what a site coordinator does on day one — and you can do it today.

Your next 30 daysIna Burgstaller

Concrete steps: free NIHR GCP certification, LinkedIn fixes, what to apply for first, and how to talk about a non-linear path — plus how the invitation-only Pathway works.

Open Q&ABoth

Ask a practitioner and a CRO founder anything — salary ranges, gaps, which CROs are hiring. Past attendees consistently rate this the most useful part.

Who this is for

Is this you?

This session was designed for a specific person. Read both columns honestly.

This is for you if…
  • You’ve done serious research, but your CV keeps getting ignored for clinical roles
  • You’ve drifted into jobs that had nothing to do with your degree — and want to come back to science and clinical work
  • Your path hasn’t been linear — a stopped master’s, changed countries, gaps — and you’re unsure how to explain it to employers
  • You care about human health, ethics and how studies are run — and want to work on trials that do it better
  • You want clear, honest information — not a vague “transferable skills” chat
This probably isn’t for you if…
  • You already have 1+ year of site or CRO experience
  • You’re mainly looking for startup, accelerator or funding help — this session is about getting trusted in an operational role first
  • You’re looking for a GCP certification course only (NIHR provides that free)

Common questions

Straight answers

Do I need clinical research experience to attend?

No. The session is designed for people coming from academic research, healthcare, or life sciences who want to understand the clinical trials industry. If you already have CRO or site experience, this probably isn’t the right starting point.

Is the £49 really deducted from the bootcamp?

Yes, in full. If you’re invited to The Practitioner Pathway after the session and choose to join, your £49 is credited in full against the enrolment fee. There’s no obligation to continue.

I’ve already paid for a degree — why pay again to be employable?

Fair question, and we’d be annoyed too. Your degree taught you the science; nobody taught you the operational layer the industry hires on — GCP, SDV, TMF, protocol deviations, the actual hiring map. The honest parts are free and we say so: NIHR GCP costs nothing, and REDCap is open. What you’re paying £49 for is two hours of compressed direction from people who’ve hired for these roles — the translation method, the exercise, and the plan — instead of spending another six months reverse-engineering it from job adverts.

How is the session delivered?

Live online — you can join from anywhere in the world. You’ll receive a joining link when you book. It runs as one live, interactive group session, and the small cohort is core to how it works.

What if I’m not in the UK — or my situation is difficult right now?

The session is live online — you can join from anywhere with an internet connection, and people join from well outside the UK. We know some of you are applying from genuinely hard circumstances, including conflict zones. The hiring map, the CV translation and the 30-day plan work the same wherever you are, and remote CRO roles exist. If you can’t attend live, email ina@bionabu.com and we’ll put you on the waitlist for future session times.

What is The Practitioner Pathway?

An invitation-only 8-week simulator programme for a small group: the real day-to-day work of a clinical operations team, done safely on a real platform with simulated data. We don’t sell it on this page — places are offered to session participants, and we explain how it works at the session.

Can I attend just the session, without anything after?

Absolutely. The £49 session stands entirely on its own. You’ll leave with clarity, an action plan, and practical tools regardless of what comes after. No pressure.

Ready?

7 years of research isn’t wasted.
It just needs translating.

Come to the session. Ask the questions. Leave with a plan.
